People have all sorts of reasons for hiring a tutor, but the most common reasons are because of the benefit of having 1:1 attention and bespoke planning - tailored for your needs.
This means that people use tutors to help prepare for entrance or other exams; to catch up with peers following an interruption, or because of a barrier to learning (SEN or otherwise); for learning during a break from school (school 'refuser' or sickness), etc...
Sessions will be planned based on the information you have given me and the targets you wish to achieve, whether that is keeping up with peers while there is an interruption to learning; building confidence; or catching up, overcoming a barrier to learning.
There is a saying that: education is 10% learning and 90% confidence! Building confidence is what I bring to the table when working with students. I have never had a student who wasn't able to do more than they imagined - building confidence leads to success in so many ways!
It is really important, for tutoring to be effective, for the student and the tutor to work in collaboration. If a student is not investing in session then sadly little to no progress will be made. Sessions are planned to be engaging, relevant to student interests, and with a sense of control handed over to the learner.Â
